Wanted (The Dirty Windshield Version)

by Quiet Takes

/

about

“Wanted” lives in the ellipses between acknowledging you want something you can’t have...and letting that desire go. The plan was to put this stripped-down version out in the fall after releasing its more produced twin on an EP this summer, but then everything changed. Beyond the pandemic's catastrophic casualties, we are all grappling with lesser losses: plans, jobs, dreams, relationships, routines, shows, savings, physical touch. It seemed right to put this version out now. Sometimes we only realize what we want when it's absent. That’s the gift in the grief, but it stings, doesn’t it?

lyrics

Letting go of that feeling
Collarbone hooked and dragged in
He said "Can I take something?”
I lied and said, “No, nothing”

But I know what I wanted was you
Yeah, I know what I wanted was you

Starting to buy colors again
Wearing cherries, drinking late gin
Don’t wait, just say I’m off track
I lied and pulled my hand back

There better be better days
There better be better days

'Cause I know what I wanted was you
Yeah, I know what I wanted was you
And I know what I wanted was you
Yeah, I know what I wanted was you
